Clybourne Park starts where Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun ends. The play begins in 1959 when the Younger family is moving to the white suburban community of Clybourne Park. Norris looks at the reaction of the white neighbours to the arrival of the first African-American family into the neighbourhood—they're less than welcoming. Then he jumps forward fifty years and turns the tables. Clybourne Park is now an African-American neighbourhood which is gentrifying, and the Younger house is being purchased by a white couple, who want to move in and remodel it.
Kareem Mortimer makes his stage directing debut with Bruce Norris' 21st century look at race in the USA. Clybourne Park won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2011 and the Tony Award in 2012.
