November 29th, 2016

Here at Friends of the Environment we are so thankful for our members and supporters! Because of you we are able to affect real change in Abaco through environmental education.

We are joining in with the Giving Tuesday movement to provide more opportunities for you to make a difference for Abaco's environment. "Giving Tuesday" is the Tuesday following Black Friday and Cyber Monday and is all about encouraging giving in ways that can inspire change. Each of the opportunities presented are great options for gifts that give just a little bit more.

Here's how you can contribute today:
Help support environmental education by giving the gift of a year's membership to FRIENDS. The recipient will receive monthly updates via our e-newsletters and our fall and summer hardcopy newsletters.

cleanup
Help FRIENDS facilitate cleanups in Abaco by sponsoring a cleanup package. Groups wishing to do a cleanup will receive data forms, pencils, gloves, and trash bags. FRIENDS will submit the data from the cleanup to the International Coastal Cleanup database to assist in global decision making about marine debris.
nature trail
Thanks to the generosity of Mary E. Albury, FRIENDS is fortunate to have our very own nature trail on property! We will guide student groups along the nature trail where they will learn how to identify plants and animals found in Bahamian coppice habitats, and will learn plant biology appropriate to their grade level.
classroom presentation, summer camp
Bringing the outside in!
Students learn about Abaco's unique environment through creative classroom activities that get them excited about going outside and exploring the natural world around them. Presentations will be given to local schools and community groups.

Inspire a love of science! Your donation will bring a class from one of Abaco's schools to the Frank Kenyon Centre lab for a curriculum-based, grade level appropriate lab activity. Students will learn the scientific method and will be encouraged to investigate their own research questions under a guided theme.
sawmill sink, blue hole, field trip
Seeing is believing!
Snorkeling coral reefs, swimming in blue holes, and tasting salt on a mangrove leaf are some of the experiences that leave students with memories filled with a new sense of adventure and a love for their environment.
