Agreement with Bethune-Cookman University paves way for BTVI students

It's official. Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) and the Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), paving the way for BTVI students who wish to earn Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) disciplines.

B-CU continues to expand its global footprint in The Bahamas. In July 2017, the university was accredited by the National Accreditation and Equivalency Council of the Bahamas (NAECOB) to offer online courses, degree programs and have a physical location.

The MOU with BTVI was signed on the Bethune-Cookman University campus in Daytona Beach, Florida. B-CU is one of three private, historically black colleges in Florida.

BTVI’s President, Dr. Robert W, Robertson, noted that the agreement widens the options for BTVI’s students seeking to smoothly matriculate into the institution.

“The agreement provides BTVI students with scholarship options at Bethune Cookman, notably in STEM.  We are excited to be able to work with a high quality institution such as B-CU. Some of the key areas being considered for collaboration between the two schools include Computer Technology, Environmental Management, Health Services and Business,” said Dr. Robertson.

B-CU’s Senior Advisor to the President for Institutional Effectiveness and Compliance, Dr. Narendra Patel stated that B-CU has a long tradition of training Bahamian students and he was particularly pleased that the agreement contains a scholarship for BTVI transfer students. He noted that the benefits to students reflect the commitment that B-CU has to furthering its partnership with BTVI.

Also present were some members of the university’s faculty and administrative staff, in addition to some members of the Bahamian Students Association, who presented Dr. Robertson with an honorary medallion to commemorate the event.

Accompanying Dr. Robertson was BTVI’s Dean of Student Affairs, Racquel Bethel, who is also a graduate of the university.

The initiative is aligned with B-CU’s key performance indicators which address increasing global partnerships, increasing access, enrollment and revenue.
