The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) students Bobbye Bethel, Rashad Maycock and Mario Bethel Jr. are being afforded the opportunity to further their studies in Canada on Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) scholarship.
Rashad, an Office Assistant student, will be headed to College of the Rockies and Mario, who is studying Information Technology, will be an exchange student at Fanshawe College. Both young men will spend the fall semester at the Canadian institutions. Electronics Engineering student, Bobbye Bethel, will experience Canada’s winter when she spends a semester at Holland College as of January 2019.
BTVI’s Dean of Student Affairs, Raquel Bethel, encouraged the trio to be good ambassadors and to take full advantage of the opportunity to experience the country’s culture.
Meanwhile, BTVI’s President, Dr. Robert W. Robertson, who is a Canadian citizen, gave the students insight on what to expect with the weather and what Canada has to offer. He encouraged them to enjoy the experience, but reminding them to remain focused.
The scholarships, granted by the Canadian government provide Latin America and Caribbean students with short-term exchange opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The exchange, which began in 2009, requires students to return to BTVI to complete their studies following the experience.
