Fall at the NAGB continues to be amazing with the opening of “Trans: A Migration of Identity” in Andros, Lavar Munroe’s outstanding exhibition, “Son of the Soil,” with the additon of his breathtaking new installation in the NAGB Ballroom, being unveiled together with Jonathan Bethel’s show in The PS Room on the ground floor.  Additionally we have a film screening, teachers’ seminar and our much anticipated Friday Night Live! To add even more excitement, the NAGB will, for the first time, be a screening site for the 2018 Creative Time Summit!

Time for Harvest  Join us in Andros! This October, the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas (NAGB) has taken its travelling exhibition to Fresh Creek, Andros! The opening reception on Monday, October 15th, heralded the beginning of a week of extensive community outreach initiative inclusive of free workshops, a public talk, school visits (primary and secondary) and donations of museum literature for art teachers, schools and public libraries. If you’re already in Andros, or travelling to Andros, visit Brigadier’s/Dream Villas to see this very relevant exhibition and, of course, participate in all of the free activities that will be facilitated for one full week by our knowledge and capable NAGB staff! Workshops, films + more!  Halloween Screening Hosted by Bahamian filmmaker and NAGB film programmer, Travolta Cooper, the NAGB Film Series returns with “Rosemary’s Baby" (1968), the groundbreaking psychological horror that changed the genre. Join us on Thursday, October 18th, 2018 at 7 p.m. for a hair-raising night of incredible film… if you dare. A classic lives on → Where the pen meets the paintbrush This quarter's NAGB Teachers’ Seminar is a workshop for ALL teachers who are interested in learning more about integrating art with literature and utilising resources at the museum to enhance their students' experience. Join us on Saturday, October 20th, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., for this FREE and unique training opportunity!   This seminar is gonna be lit! (See what we did there?) Friday Night Live! Scares This October we bring a little spookiness and a lot of fun with a special Halloween-themed FNL! Join us for a “Night at the Museum” where there will be art, food, lots of mystery and tricks and treats - all to be enjoyed in the course of just one night. Come in your costumes or make a mask at our workshop, welcome the cool fall temperatures with the lively music of Bodine in Fiona's Theatre and of course, tour or draw in our gorgeous galleries. Lavar Munroe "Return: The Magic Flight" opens A second chapter opens to accompany Lavar Munroe’s stunning exhibition  “Son of the Soil” — the artist’s 10-year survey — on Thursday, November 1st, 2018. An installation, originally envisioned for the NAGB’s Ballroom, finally comes home to Nassau! First physically realised in 2016 as the project “Memorials,”  “Return: The Magic Flight” will be on view through Sunday, November 25th with a special artist’s talk on Friday, November 16th at 7 p.m. Celebrating Legacy! Jonathan Bethel's Solo Show "Elemental" opens in The  PS Room The NAGB presents a solo exhibition in our project space, The PS Room, by Jonathan Bethel, entitled “Elemental”. Opening on Thursday, November 1st, the showcase features luscious acrylic paintings celebrating the unspoilt and nostalgic beauty of The Bahamas. Starting at 5 p.m. the gallery will be open for extended viewing hours with libations until 7 p.m. in connection with the NAGB’s Creative Time Conference. On November 10th, at 5 p.m. we will host an Open Studiossession where Jonathan will share the intricacies of his work and inspiration.  Learn more about "Elemental"→ NAGB partners with Creative Time Summit The NAGB is happy to be a screening site for the 2018 Creative Time Summit, which opens November 1st in Miami, Florida. Over 80 speakers will engage with themes including immigration and borders, climate realities, notions of intersectional justice, gentrification, tourism as an enabler for neocolonialism, and the roles art and activism can play in all these pressing issues. The NAGB's support for this internationally acclaimed conference begins with extended gallery viewing hours and libations on November 1st, a screening of presenters in Miami and appearances by local presenters on November 2nd and a one-of-a-kind Photo Walk and Talk around the Over-the-Hill communities on November 3rd. Articles + Announcements News + Essays UBS Donates a National Treasure: The NAGB and the Bahamian people inherit a Malone masterpiece Thanks to a recent act of incredible largesse by UBS, the NAGB was fortunate enough to add to the people’s collection, the National Collection.  As Mary Rozell, Global Head UBS Art Collection, shared in a statement, “We are pleased to donate the Brent Malone mural, “Celebration: Spirit of Junkanoo”, originally commissioned for the lobby of the UBS office in Nassau, to the National Art Gallery of The Bahamas to make it available to the broader public in this region.” This massive canvas captures the movement, spirit and fiery intensity of the festival and the NAGB could not be more elated to announce this excellent news.
