We Wish You a Safe Christmas

Dear Readers,

The Christmas holiday season is literally the "most wonderful time of the year". You get to spend time with family and friends, there is lots to eat and drink and everyone is generally in great spirits...but I put to you that NOBODY enjoys Christmas as much as kids do.

I've always been of the opinion that Christmas is really about the kids, but in the hustle and bustle that is the holiday shopping season, when traffic is heaviest on the roads and shopping centers are likely crowded, it can be easy to lose track of your children, both literally and figuratively.

Just outside our offices this week, my co-workers witnessed a two-car collision. Both vehicles were carrying very young children, none of whom were strapped into a car seat. Now I don't point this out to shame anyone but rather as a cautionary tale. While the children in this story were shaken up but otherwise unharmed, it could have all gone horribly wrong. I know how it is, you're rushing to pick up that one special gift before the store closes, and so maybe you dash through the intersection where you would have normally stopped. Or perhaps you're on your way home from a family gathering where you've had a drink or two. Whatever the circumstances, while we're all busy shopping and making our way around town, let's all buckle up and make sure our kids are too.

In the car isn't the only place you need to pay special attention to your kid's safety. Imagine losing your little one inside a crowded mall or shopping center. One minute, little Suzie is right next to and the next, she's lost in a sea of shoppers.

There are even dangers right at home...brightly lit Christmas trees are a magnet for curious toddlers who are notorious for pulling at things. Or what about when opening toys, particularly ones with small easy to swallow pieces.

Want more tips on how to make Christmas safe and enjoyable for your entire family? (Especially your kids) then check out this great article with even more tips on how to do just that!

Enjoy your holidays everyone!

Hey BFF's

The third look in our three-part makeup series is definitely not for the faint of heart. Its perfect for the woman who wants to grab the attention of everyone at that Christmas or New Year's gathering. That's right ladies and gentle-ladies, for our third look we're going full tilt into the world of GLITTER!

Glitter can take your look from basic to BEAT in just one application. To execute, you'd start with a basic eyeshadow look. For this one, we went back into the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette and used a gold shimmery color called Creme Brule and the cut-crease method to get a perfectly rounded lid shape. Not able to perfect a 'cut-crease' no worries you can apply your shadow the way you normally do before moving on to the star of the show. You can use whatever color glitter you like but for this look, we went with a classic gold which we paired with a red lip for a retro-glam effect.

Now here's the thing...Glitter is beautiful, but it can also be tricky. If you're not careful, it will get everywhere. Thankfully, we're already BFF's so I have a problem sharing a few #protips with you.

Pro tip number 1: Do your eye makeup first. Nothing is more frustrating than getting glitter fallout all over your perfectly finished foundation application. Doing this part first means that you can clean up any messes before moving on to your face makeup like foundation, concealer, and powder.

Pro tip number 2. Use a Glitter Primer. It does exactly what the name says: Primes your eyes for glitter. A little bit will help the glitter stick to your eye preventing fallout and protecting your foundation application. My favorite is the NYX Glitter Primer

CROSSREACH
NOVEMBER 2018 UPDATE

Our November run followed 2 days after Thanksgiving. A couple of local businesses donated funds enabling us to fill the bags and add an extra bag of mixed fruit. G.B Food supplied the fruit at a lovely discount and threw in an extra box of apples. As always, the Millers' 52 loaves of freshly baked bread really topped off each of the bags. 52 bags of supplies and 52 bags of fruit were finally delivered.

Christmas Run: Plans for the run are already in progress and it promises to be a memorable one for everyone. Two other local businesses are accumulating blankets, We are continuing to plan this run using larger boxes to hold the extra supplies. We have the basic necessities, and are now looking for small luxury items to top off the bags. LIS is having their own food drive which will be included. Additional items such as warm clothing (wooly hats, socks), pastries, pies, candies, cookies, small canned hams, perhaps cooked chickens would really help. Kay has already begun knitting some beautiful dolls which will also be included.

Nekemea: Mario has been registered with NIB and will receive a monthly check from now on.
Crossreach supporters have donated a quantity of diapers for the 2 boys and have paid her arrears of rent. Further, she was given a raffle ticket by her sister which won 2nd prize in the Mary Star raffle.   She has asked for some warm clothing for the two boys. Perhaps fleecy sweat suits (for 10-12 year-olds), socks, vests etc..

Dorothy: Until recently living with her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend in Bahama Arms, has moved back into her old apartment in Bahamia as a squatter.

No power nor water but she seems to be much more content. Crossreach has dropped off clothes, cooking gas and water together with the November bag.

Christmas Run Date:
     Saturday 22nd December
