The Peterborough Humane Society welcomed eight new puppies just before Christmas. They’re part of a group of 24 that were rescued from the Bahamas, in collaboration with the Durham Region and Northumberland humane societies.
Shawn Morey, executive director for the Peterborough Humane Society, said in press release the society is “extremely excited” to be welcoming the puppies.
“It is another example of the great work being done by PHS in the world of animal welfare,” he said. “We have established some spectacular partners this year, and experienced a number of great transfers.”
The Bahamas Humane Society is currently sheltering more than 200 dogs. The dogs were transferred in co-ordination with the Nassau shelter. Due to limited resources in the area, most dogs have a life expectancy of only two to three years.
The puppies will be in the care of PHS for about five weeks before they are available for adoption. You can watch the PSH’s website, www.peterboroughhumanesociety.ca, or their social media for updates. (source)
