The argument against WTO

Last week we began our series on the WTO and plans for the country's accession to the international organization and covered the basics of who, what, why, when, and wheres. In today's editorial, I'd like us to take a look at the arguments against the Bahamas' accession. Last week, we briefly mentioned the group Bahamians Against the WTO who have, in recent months been very vocal about the need for the government to abandon its intention to join the trade group.

From radio appearances, to town hall meetings, and even a march on Rawson Square, the group is not letting up on their stance. The question is: are they right? Is there cause for concern?

PM Met with Director General of the Directorate Generale for Taxation and Customs Union of the European Commission

Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Hubert Minnis led a delegation to the European Commission on Tuesday, January 15th, 2019.

His delegation, which included Attorney General Sen. the Hon. Carl Bethel, met with Stephen Quest, Director General of the Directorate Generale for Taxation and Customs Union of the European Commission, and senior members of his team.

The Directorate Generale is responsible for the implementation of taxation policy in the European Union.

Plans for 2019 Junior Junkanoo Parade Announced

The Junior Junkanoo Parade for 2019 promises to be the most exciting ever.

Eighteen schools from New Providence, along with Tarpum Bay Primary and the South Andros District representing the Family Islands, have enrolled in the parade to be held on Bay Street, Thursday, January 31st, 2019 beginning at 6 pm.

Acting Permanent Secretary, Rhoda Jackson, announced plans for the national cultural event at a press briefing, Wednesday, January 16, 2019 in the conference room of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture (MOYSC). The theme for the 2019 parade is “Education is Key”.

Hundreds of participants are expected to participate in the 2nd UBFIT Fun Run Walk Bike Skate 5K/10K in Grand Bahama scheduled for Saturday, 2nd February 2019. Members of the planning committee shared the details at a press conference held on Tuesday, 8th January.
