That's all right then. Not a kidnap. Just doing your 'job'

This week's editorial is an editorial by the Tribune released this week on a recent “kidnapping” alleged by The Bahamas Human Rights Association, by The Bahamas Immigration Department. We would like to remind all readers, to know thier rights and for all of us to practice #HUMANDIGNITY when dealing with one another. #242NewsBahamas endorses this editorial 100%

Dear Reader,

"The Immigration department must hate the sight of Fred Smith QC almost as much as they hate the prospect of doing their jobs properly. If they did the latter, they wouldn’t need to see nearly so much of the former.

This week brought the alarming sight of a man being detained by Immigration officers who bundled him into the trunk of a car."

Prime Minister Minnis: ‘The revival of Grand Bahama has begun’
“After so many long decades of downturn and economic stagnation, the revival of Grand Bahama has begun,” said Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came during groundbreaking ceremonies, February 20, 2019 for a new Colonial Group International office complex in Grand Bahama.

The new headquarters will be home to the CGI group of companies that provide group employee benefits to individuals and dependents in Bermuda and the Caribbean.

Campbell begins consultations towards development of comprehensive plan for persons with disabilities
Minister of Social Services and Urban Development, the Hon. Frankie A. Campbell began consultations towards the development of a comprehensive plan for the community of persons living with disabilities. The plan is expected to include legislation.

Minister Campbell recently held separate discussions with Mrs. Sheila Culmer, a noted disability rights advocate and trailblazer, and former President of the Bahamas National Council for Disability (BNCD), and officials of the Physically Challenged Children’s Committee at the Ministry’s headquarters, located at Aventura Plaza, Bethel Avenue and John F. Kennedy Drive.
Blackmosting
The Bahamian Government seems to have been caught by surprise by the punitive action taken by the European Commission against The Bahamas on Wednesday February 13, 2019, alleging that The Bahamas has 7 strategic deficiencies in its AML/CFT regime, based on Article 9 of the European Union’s Directive 2015/849.

I caution the Prime Minister, the Attorney General, the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Financial Services, Trade & Industry against rushing off to Brussels, in a panic, to make any ill-considered appeasements and secret agreements.

Bahamas Waste Encourages ‘The Power of Play’ at Centerville Primary School
Play, like more formal avenues of education, is critical to the development of young children. Sadly, for children of inner-city communities, safe spaces designed to encourage physical activity and outdoor play can be few and far between.

For many residents living in New Providence, broken park equipment, non-functioning restrooms, and littered spaces have become quite commonplace. In an effort to reverse the trend, however, Bahamas Waste (BW), the island’s leading waste management company, recently stepped up to help community leaders transform the playground at the Centerville Primary School.

Training Future Bahamian Olympians
Swift Athletics Head Coach Andrew Tynes said many sporting medals and trophies may well be in The Bahamas’ future thanks in part to the well of athletic potential within the B3A-sanctioned track and field club.

Tynes said, “Swift Athletics got its start four years ago. We normally take on about 40 kids but this year we have 55, and the amount of talent in that pool is undeniable.”
