Five students of The Bahamas Technical and Vocational Institute (BTVI) will be headed to Canada on Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) scholarships. The scholarships, all provided by the Canadian government, provide students from Latin America and the Caribbean with short-term exchange opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The purpose is to support the development of human capital and the next generation of leaders in the Americas, which strengthen linkages between post-secondary schools in Canada with Latin America and the Caribbean.
The student exchange, which began in 2009, requires BTVI students to be full-time and following the experience, they are to return to BTVI to complete their studies. The five students recently paid a courtesy call on BTVI’s Manager and Consultant, Dr. Iva Dahl. She told them to make BTVI proud and to remain focused on their courses of study. Dr. Dahl also encouraged the students to expand their horizons and integrate with other cultures, opening themselves to the international experience. Furthermore, practical tips were given regarding dressing for the weather, food and overall living abroad.
