Bahamians in Atlanta
Atlanta, Georgia… Arts, culture, cuisine and of course Junkanoo will be on full display as the Bahamian community in Atlanta celebrate their nation’s 46th Independence. The Consul General’s Office of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas in Atlanta will be spearheading the events which commence on July 12 with a showing of the stage play ‘Election 2017: The Final Shuffle’ at First Christian Church of Atlanta on LaVista Road at 7:30 p.m. A Family Fun Day and Cultural Show will take place on Saturday, July 13 at the Fireside Pavilion in Stone Mountain Park. On Sunday, a worship service will take place at the New Life Church on Flat Shoals Road in Decatur at 11:30 a.m.By Arthia Nixon
Bahamas Consul General to Atlanta, Astra Armbrister-Rolle
“I am excited to see you all at the Independence Day Celebrations this year,” said Armbrister-Rolle. “We invite Bahamians all within our jurisdiction to come out and enjoy a day of family, fun and good fellowship.
Armbrister-Rolle, ‘Junkanooer’ also added that there will be a vibrant display of Junkanoo from the Atlanta Junkanoo Group.
In addition to the Atlanta Junkanoo Group, she noted the Conch Heaven Restaurant, Island Cafe Food Truck, DJ Five-O, Bahamians in Georgia Organization and the Independence Committee have selflessly given their time, effort and resources to make this event a success. The Consul General said that it has given all those involved a great sense of pride to share Bahamian culture with Atlanta and the world.
