SITElines: New Perspectives on Art of the Americas
Unsettled Landscapes
SITE Santa Fe, New Mexico
July 20, 2014 - January 11, 2015

S.S.s. nautical flagpole, customised beach towels, 2014.

Along with 45 artists and artist collaboratives from 16 countries, I am participating in the inaugural edition of SITElines, SITE Santa Fe’s new biennial exhibition series with a focus on contemporary art from the Americas. Unsettled Landscapes is the first in this series and will look at the urgencies, political conditions and historical narratives that inform the work of contemporary artists across the region through three themes: landscape, territory, and trade.

S.S.s is one of the 13 commissioned works for the biennial and will use the touristic port of Nassau, Bahamas, as a site for sculpture and critical engagement. A live video feed will be streamed to the exhibition in Santa Fe showing the daily assembly of cruise ships in the port while on a nautical flagpole outside the
gallery one of 40 customised beach towel flags will be raised and lowered to mark their arrival and departure. See the S.S.s live video feed.

As part of the opening events I will take part in the Davidoff Art Dialogue, 'Confronting Paradise: Land and Landscape in The Caribbean' on Saturday July 19 along with Christopher Cozier, Deborah Jack, Sara Hermann and Glenda Léon.
