But having a place to live on a very small island like this stirs the romantic in all of us, and it’s still the dream for most avid Caribbean travelers.
So here’s one place to think about: South Bimini. Read more >>

Dundas Civic Centre – Training Negroes For A New Style Plantation 1931
Many contentious arguments have been made over the years, that the Bahamas seemingly traded one plantation type existence for another, when it made a tourism model, its primary economic model for the entire country. Debates over this have only increased, as more and more mega style resort complexes rise up across Nassau’s landscape, while social and economic problems, among islanders, seemingly climb.
Service was chosen more than four generations ago, when past colonial governors and governments saw that the negro population was growing exponentially, without any real employment prospects to look forward to.

No more incentives for cruise ships
D’Aguilar: We were paying for people who didn’t come off the boat
By Paige McCartney
The government will no longer incentivize cruise ship companies to dock in The Bahamas, Minister of Tourism Dionisio D’Aguilar revealed yesterday.
“In the past we used to provide incentives for cruise passengers to come here; but to be quite honest with you, we were paying for a lot of people who didn’t come off the boat. So we scrapped all those incentives, we don’t have any incentives anymore; we’re not paying any cruise line to bring any passengers here,” he told reporters outside the Churchill Building yesterday.
D’Aguilar complained that the government was paying out $12 million a year to provide incentives for cruise ships to bring passengers to The Bahamas, but passengers were not coming off the ships and spending money. Read more >>
