Ultimate Guide to Packing the Right Shoes for Your Next Summer Vacation

Get ready to pack three pairs of shoes for your summer vacation. No more, no less.

Yes, packing only three pairs of shoes for an entire vacation can indeed be done. And we’re going to prove to you that, regardless of the type of vacation you’re about to go on, you will only need three pairs of comfy, stylish, and incredibly versatile shoes to see you through. Trust us on this!

A relaxing holiday

Don’t wait until you get to the resort to relax – start your relaxation from as early as the packing stage, by opting for three stress-free shoe options.

Flip flops should be the first pair of shoes you pack if your vacation involves a beach or pool. These are a great option, especially as this sandal takes up a miniscule amount of room. Consider swapping these out for woven espadrilles if you know you’ll be doing a lot of walking along the sand, as they will support your feet far better.

Slightly dressy yet comfortable sandals (as long as they’re smarter than your beach flip flops, they get a big thumbs up!) should also be packed for sightseeing, shopping, and going out for dinner. Ensure you pick a pair that comes in neutral colours, so that they go with all of your outfits.

Of course, wedges should be your third and final option for the dressiest of vacation plans. Leave the heels at home, because your relaxing holiday doesn’t call for sore feet from stilettos.

Active holidays

If you’re jetting off for a more active and outdoorsy vacation, then flip flops and wedges aren’t going to cut it. However, the same rule of three still applies here. Activities such as hiking call for sensible, comfortable, and even weatherproof shoes that will protect you from variable surfaces and weather conditions.

Hiking boots are naturally the first piece of footwear you will need to pack if your vacation involves a lot of trekking. We recommend packing a pair you already own and are comfortable with; if this is your first active vacation, we suggest practicing walking on different surfaces to break your new hiking boots in. And don’t forget the right socks, either!

Secondly, a less technical but super-comfortable pair of sneakers should be packed for all non-hiking based activities. Long walks, sightseeing, even hitting the hotel gym; you name it, you’ll need your supportive sneakers for it!

Thirdly, we recommend a very comfortable pair of sandals, which is especially important for hotter climates. Consider wearing these sandals to some of the aforementioned activities such as walking and sightseeing if the weather is too warm for socks and closed shoes.

‘Anything goes’ holidays

If your vacation activities are a mix of leisurely walks, brisk hikes, and relaxed sunbathing sessions, then your footwear should reflect this. Consider packing a variety of shoes to accommodate your needs accordingly. Again, this can still be done with just three pairs. No cheating!

Slide-on sneakers are great for summer vacations; not only can they be worn for sporting activities, but they also look great with dresses and skirts. So long as you aren’t going on an intense hiking trail, leave the hiking boots at home and trust your sneakers to see you through. Slide-on sneakers in versatile colors are our top choice for city breaks, too!

Closed-toe pumps are another excellent shoe choice, as they can be dressed up or down with ease. No need to pack high heels, as a smart pair of flats in a neutral yet summery color will complement both skinny jeans and dresses perfectly.

Sandals – the comfier the better – should be your third and final pair of shoes. Sandals are particularly important for hot climates, so avoid sweating in socks and go for the comfiest pair of open toed shoes you can find. They will see you through all your walking and sightseeing activities without any problems, while your closed flats will save the day if you find yourself in need of something smarter.

While packing just three pairs of shoes may feel impossible to some, these ideas show that it can (and should!) be done no matter where you go this summer. From the beach to the mountain, you can pack light and still stay chic.

Is Abstinence Really Possible?

Barrington H. Brennen
By Barrington H. Brennen

Is it possible for today’s teens and young adults to remain sexually abstinent?  Is it an out-of-date teaching or expectation? Before I explore these questions, I will give my definition of sexual abstinence.  Sexual abstinence is not having sex in any form (emotionally or clinically) before marriage.   Wikipedia gives this definition: “Sexual abstinence or sexual restraint is the practice of refraining from some or all aspects of sexual activity for medical, psychological, legal, social, financial, philosophical, moral, or religious reasons.”

Here is one reason sexual abstinence has not worked very well in our society where most people claim to be Christian.   Religious parents and leaders have mostly taught sexual abstinence only in the context of spiritual purity—a Divine expectation.  “This is what the Bible says, and therefore, do not do it.”   That’s about the limit to the teaching.  While the teaching of sexual abstinence is ideal, the method of “Do what the Bible says” really does not provide enough knowledge to assist the individual when navigating natural emotional and physical sexual desires.   Many religious leaders ignore the reality of natural drives or desires of the budding young adults.  Many make our teens feel that sexual desire itself is really wrong when not in a marriage.  Read more >>

Meet the Dangerously Beautiful Fish That Some Say Is Better Off Dead

Lionfish are an invasive species which threaten other marine life and even the coral reef, but they also happen to be delicious.

By Fiona Tapp

It’s not very often that your supper is just too pretty to eat but when it comes to dining on lionfish, it’s almost a shame to kill it. The zebra-hued, monotone and curious-looking fish has large radial spikes that stretch beyond its body, protecting it from all around. Go too close and you’ll certainly know about it.

Those 18 venomous spines along its back can deliver a painful punch. Although not deadly to a healthy adult human, the long sharp spikes offer an excruciating sting that can last for days. In extreme cases, the after-effects can lead to respiratory problems and even paralysis.  Read more >>

Capital works commence at LPIA

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Travellers should brace for delays at Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA) as capital works to revamp the runway began in earnest today and is expected to take another four months to complete, according to the Nassau Airport Development (NAD) company.

NAD, the company that manages operations of the LPIA, has partnered with Bahamas Hot Mix to complete the $20 million project.

The project will require upgrades to the asphalt paving, which is expected to renew and extend the life on the runway, as well as reduce the risk of damage to aircraft that overrun the runways.

New LED approach lights are also expected to be installed to assist pilots in low visibility operations.

According to officials, the project is expected to be completed before the Thanksgiving travel period, which brings scores of visitors to the shores of The Bahamas.  Read more >>

While noting that too many young Bahamians are imprisoned for possessing small quantities of cannabis, former Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham expressed his support for the legalization of medicinal marijuana.

“I support it,” Ingraham told The Nassau Guardian.

“Yes, as the minister [of health] does.”

He added, “As a general statement, the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes has been, generally speaking, established to the satisfaction of many persons, including myself as a non-medical person.”

Ingraham said the government is tasked with wrestling with “the issue of recreational usage of a small quantity of drugs because large numbers of young people are being imprisoned because of it”.

Ingraham told The Guardian some consideration should be given to those people who possess small quantities of marijuana for recreational use.  Read more >>

Dangerous Male Enhancement Pills

Viagra obtained US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in March of 1998 and the world of erectile dysfunction has never been the same. The sexual enhancement pills industry is huge and continues to grow, with Viagra making over $2 billion last year. Other PDE5 inhibitor medications such as Cialis and Levitra are also widely prescribed throughout the world.
However, there is also a dubious industry of purported sexual enhancement pills that do not have FDA approval and are unregulated. These unregulated sex pills are potentially very dangerous to a man's health as they have not gone through rigorous testing, and the possible harmful health effects are numerous and very troubling. There is no data to support the safety or efficacy of these falsely advertised natural supplements.
A man should not trust a medication that he can buy from a cashier at the local gas station or hardware store, or over the internet. These medications are to be taken at one's own risk, but the average man has no idea what those potential negative health effects might be.  Read more >>
