And that’s without mentioning the blissfully warm water that you don’t find in some destinations during the colder months of the year.

But there’s a caveat: the mercury is higher, meaning you’ll want to be in one of two places: either somewhere in the hills, or somewhere right on the beach, close to the water.

And we have you covered, with 20 great places to stay for perfect summer Caribbean vacations, either perched in breezy hillsides, set right on the sand, or, well, both.  Read more >>

Govt. eyes water tax and pier, central part for Bahamas and connecting sky bridge

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – In order to boost Bahamian ownership in tourism and boost spending of cruise ship passengers, the government plans to redevelop the stretch of land from Arawak Cay, more commonly called the Fish Fry, to Junkanoo Beach and Long Wharf, Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis announced in the House of Assembly yesterday during the budget debate.

“This new entertainment area for Nassau will result in scores of Bahamians going to the waterfront for entertainment and relaxation of a weekly basis,” he said.

“We will enhance and beautify the area for Junkanoo practices, cookouts, festivals and other events.

“Like Saunders Beach and Montagu Beach, we will enhance the beaches and swimming areas for Bahamians and visitors.

“The House will recall that it is the FNM that first developed Fish Fry, which has been extremely successful.”  Read more >>

By Alicia Wallace, CNN Business

San Francisco (CNN Business)Fueled in part by CBD product sales and Canada's recent legalization of marijuana, the world's cannabis market could notch $15 billion this year.

Industry insiders are forecasting that global cannabis sales could total $14.9 billion in 2019, up 36% from 2018, according to a new report released Thursday.

For the first time, the annual "The State of Legal Cannabis Markets" report evaluated the cannabis industry as the "Total Cannabinoid Market," meaning it encompassed sales of medical and recreational cannabis at dispensaries; hemp-derived products rich in non-psychoactive cannabidiol, or CBD; and US Food & Drug Administration approved CBD-based pharmaceuticals.  Read more >>

Here are ten popular ways to enjoy the national food of the Bahamas

Preparing a conch salad — Photo courtesy of iStock / shalamov

While I was certainly aware of conch (pronounced "conk") before traveling to the Bahamas, I was unaware of just how prevalent it is in Bahamian cooking. During the Bites of Nassau Food Tasting and Cultural Walking Tour with Tru Bahamian Food Tours, I was introduced to the many uses of conch, the fishing regulations that protect it, and even some of the local legends connected to this spiral-shelled sea snail.

This introduction inspired me throughout my trip to learn more about the many different ways conch is prepared and served in the islands of the Bahamas. Here are ten ways you can enjoy conch – the Bahamas’ national food – and some suggested places to try it.  Read more >>

New York lawmakers decriminalized small amounts of marijuana after failing to agree on a comprehensive package that would have fully legalized the drug and provided revenue for social programs.

The state Senate passed its bill Thursday evening, 39-23, and the Assembly approved it early Friday, though a vote count wasn’t immediately available.

“This is not the final step, but it will lay the groundwork for full decriminalization and legalization,” Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said in a statement.  Read more >>

Breaking The Booze Habit, Even Briefly, Has Its Benefits

The proliferation of craft mocktails made with non-alcoholic distilled spirits is making it easier and more fun for people who abstain from alcohol to feel like they are still part of the party.

At 8 p.m. on a Saturday night, people are starting to pack into a popular bar called Harvard & Stone in an East Los Angeles neighborhood. The chatter gets louder as the booze begins to flow.

In the far corner, a group of about a dozen women are clearly enjoying themselves, too, but they are not drinking alcohol. They're sipping handcrafted mocktails, with names like Baby's First Bourbon and Honey Dew Collins, featuring non-alcoholic distilled spirits.

They're part of a sober social club, made up mostly of women in their 30s who want to have fun and make friends without alcohol.

The members of this club work out, have demanding jobs, and simply don't want to feel foggy or hungover anymore. Without alcohol, they say, they just feel better.  Read more >>
